Resolution-Dependent Layout

While the endless debate about fixed vs. liquid layouts continues, Cameron Adams has come up with a layout that uses JavaScript to bring new meaning to the term "liquid":

JavaScript can tell you what the width of a browser is, then react accordingly. By default the content is displayed in a single column. Non-JavaScript enabled browsers, or lower resolution ones, will stay that way. But if you're 1024-up, with JavaScript, an alternate stylesheet gets put into action. See a simple example here. I'd like to see tables do that.

While some liquid layouts will just stretch as your browser grows, producing long, hard-to-read lines of text, his example neatly splits the content body into three columns instead of three rows when the browser reaches 1024 pixels wide. Nicely done, and a great inspiration for a homepage redesign I've been working on. [found via Keith]
