Greetings! My name is Michael Moncur and I'm taking over as the primary blogger for The JavaScript Weblog. I'm
excited to be a part of the Weblogs, Inc. team. I met Jason Calacanis
and Brian Alvey at the SXSW conference earlier this year, saw presentations
from both of them, and they made a great impression. I've been hoping to write for WIN for a while, and now's my
chance.
There's a good chance you haven't heard of me, so here's a brief bio. I've been writing
computer books for a few years, including such topics as
JavaScript,
DHTML, and
MySQL. When I'm not writing books I run a number
of Web sites including
The Quotations Page, which started as a labor of love in 1994 and is now
the Web's number one quotations site, with over a million visitors per month. (The site's in the midst of a much-needed
redesign, so do me a favor and don't laugh at the source code.)
I have my own weblog at Figby.com, and I will soon be posting there more often.
I'm the administrator for SlashNot, a tech news parody weblog, and
FilmFilter, a community film weblog, although other people do most of the
writing on those sites. I post an occasional longer article on Web development at
Website Workshop.
Running Web sites and writing is my full-time job, and most of my income comes from Web advertising. I live in Salt
Lake City, Utah with my wife Laura, a dog, and two cats. Hobbies include electronic music, origami, houseplants, and
model rocketry. Slightly less geeky hobbies include bicycling and camping.
I'd like to thank my predecessor, Dori Smith, for her great writing on this
site. I hope to match the standard of quality set by her postings. I look forward to writing about JavaScript here
daily. Please do let me know how I'm doing via email or comments.
